Top 7 WWE Superstars John Cena Must Face on Retirement Tour
John Cena is arguably the biggest WWE Superstar of all-time.
Not only has he successfully made the transition from the squared circle to Hollywood, he also holds the record for most world championships (16, tied with Ric Flair).

Now, as Monday Night Raw makes its Netflix premiere, John Cena has also officially begun his retirement tour. This means that after 2025, he will no longer engage in in-ring action.
Naturally, there are plenty of opponents fans want to see Cena get one more shot at. So here are seven current WWE Superstars that are worthy of a slot in the retirement tour.
R-Truth
This past year, R-Truth has established himself as Cena’s biggest fan, often referring to the Doctor of Thuganomics as his childhood hero. Therefore, it would only make sense for these two to get in the ring together.
Whether they’re having a friendly match or they work together to handle The Miz, one Cena’s greatest rivals, R-Truth and Cena would absolutely bring a smile on the face of anyone watching.
Jacob Fatu
One of Cena’s greatest villains was Umaga, whose ferocity, speed, and strength in the ring seemed almost impossible to match. Unfortunately, the real-life Eddie Fatu passed away in 2009 at 36 years old.
While it would be awesome to see his son, Zilla Fatu, face off against Cena, the closest person on the WWE roster at the moment to Umaga’s terrifying nature is Jacob Fatu, one of the most exciting wrestlers to debut in WWE last year.
Randy Orton
There are plenty of rematches from Cena’s hay day that fans will want to see on the retirement tour. AJ Styles. Adam Copeland/Edge/Cope. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
However, there is one person whose career almost perfectly parallels Cena’s: Randy Orton. The two started off around the same time and were constantly facing each other in the main event picture. Not having this match in 2025 would be a mistake.
Kevin Owens
One of the most underrated feuds in Cena’s illustrious career was against Kevin Owens, who actually beat him in their first match-up back in 2015.
Seeing how far Owens has come, it would be fun to see the two of them battle it out again, especially since Owens’ is so adamant that everyone is against him.
Chad Gable
Another classic feud was between Cena and Kurt Angle, who had multiple excellent matches throughout their careers. While Angle has retired from in-ring action, there’s another former Olympian who could take his place.
Chad Gable has often been praised as a modern-day Kurt Angle. However, he has never made it into the main event scene. Beating or even holding his own against Cena would be a great way to make Gable a top guy.
CM Punk
This is another match-up that is a no-brainer. Cena has always been a company man. Meanwhile, CM Punk has always been a wrestler of the people. Even when WWE didn’t want him, the fans absolutely did.
This rivalry genuinely felt otherworldly, with some incredible matches that remain both Superstars’ best. CM Punk proved that he could still have five-star classics when he beat Drew McIntyre. Now it’s time for Cena to do the same.
Cody Rhodes
It’s hard to think of someone nowadays who is on the same popularity level Cena was in his prime. But if anyone were to get close, it’d be Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
Arguably the most popular babyface in wrestling today, Rhodes vs. Cena would be an excellent passing of the torch for the American Nightmare or the record-breaking final title run for one of the best to ever do it.
