Top 4 Perfect Actors to Terrorize as DCU’s Clayface

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
DC Studios co-chief James Gunn was quick to shoot down rumors that Daniel Radcliffe had been tapped to play Clayface in the Batman villain’s upcoming feature. Still, it does beg the question of exactly who should play him, and we’ve got some ideas.

Alan Tudyk
Tudyk has not only voiced Clayface for “Harley Quinn”, but for the more recent (and DCU canonical) “Creature Commandos”. When Gunn told everyone about the “Gods and Monsters” line-up, he said that whenever possible he wanted the same actors who voiced DC characters to also play them in live-action, and vice-versa.
Still, that’s not a set-in-stone rule, and considering the timing of the “Clayface” announcement, it seems likely Tudyk was cast as Clayface in “Creature Commandos” long before Mike Flanagan’s feature got the green light. And let’s not forget we barely hear Tudyk’s voice in the “Creature Commandos” episode.

This is to say Tudyk shouldn’t be cast just because of something Gunn said years before we see “Clayface”, but because the guy’s got range and he would rock.
Nicolas Cage
A B-list actor who becomes a Batman villain and still wants to “act.” Can you think of a more perfect way for Nicolas Cage to enter the DC Universe? Especially when you consider “Clayface” is set to be a body horror film, and Cage has fully embraced the horror genre in more recent years.
Daniel Radcliffe
So James Gunn hasn’t talked to Radcliffe about playing Clayface. Well, just like Bonnie Raitt said, “Let’s give ’em something to talk about.”
Radcliffe may be best known as The Boy Who Lived but with features like “Swiss Army Man”, “Horns”, and “Guns Akimbo”, the guy has proven he can do a lot more than point a wand. He’ll probably never be Wolverine, so why not give him a shot at Clayface?
Ewan McGregor
McGregor may be more well-known for more heroic roles – especially those in a galaxy far, far away – but he’s an excellent actor with lots of range who could absolutely embody Basil Karlo, aka Clayface. If you’ve ever seen his turn at a pair of twins in the criminal anthology series “Fargo”, you can probably see him as this troubled villain as well.
Not to mention that Mike Flanagan is known for working with the same people, and he and McGregor already collaborated on “Doctor Sleep”.
And yes, McGregor already played Black Mask in “Birds of Prey”. But if Jason Momoa can play Aquaman and Lobo, McGregor can play two different Batman villains.
