SNL” cold open mocks Elon Musk, reveals “Hot, Jacked Trump
The first episode of Saturday Night Live since Donald Trump’s election victory mocked billionaire Elon Musk and debuted a “Hot, Jacked Trump” as the cast members insisted they’ve been with the Republican “all along.”
The episode’s cold open began soberly as cast members discussed Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this week.
“On Tuesday, Americans went to the polls and elected Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States,” Bowen Yang said.
“To many people, including many people watching this show right now, the results were shocking and even horrifying,” Ego Nwodim said.
“Donald Trump, who forcibly tried to overturn the results of the last election, was returned to office by an overwhelming majority,” Heidi Gardner said.
“This is the same Donald Trump who openly called for vengeance against his political enemies,” Kenan Thompson said.
“And now thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no guardrails,” Yang said.
Then Thompson delivered the punchline: “That is why we at SNL would like to say to Donald Trump, we have been with you all along.”
Yang added: “We have never wavered in our support for you, even when others doubted you.”
Sarah Sherman said: “Every single person on this stage believed in you.”
And Marcello Hernández added: “Every single person on this stage voted for you.”
The cast members continued praising Trump, with Thompson adding: “If you’re keeping some sort of list of your enemies, then we should not be on that list.”
Sherman then introduced a new character “Hot, Jacked Trump,” prompting James Austin Johnson to come out as a muscled version of the president-elect.
He then claimed the show—which has long mocked Trump—would now only feature a flattering impression.
“They finally got the body right,” Johnson said, using his Trump voice. “But from now on we’re going to do very flattering portrayal of Trump, because frankly he’s my hero and he’s going to make an incredible president and eventually, king. We love you, buddy.”
Thompson later said that “worst case scenario, meaning scenario, if our planet falls apart, we can all go to Mars with the other man that we love and trust: Elon Musk.”
Dana Carvey then arrived on stage, debuting an impression of the X owner who was one of Trump’s biggest donors and could have a formal role in the incoming administration.
Mimicking Musk’s antics on the campaign trail, Carvey’s Musk jumped up and down and performed some dance moves as the show’s cast members looked on with straight faces.
“Check it out: dark MAGA. Yeah! But seriously, I run the country now,” he said.
“America’s going to be like one of my rockets. They’re super cool and super fun, but there’s a slight chance it could blow up and everybody dies. Ha ha! I’m dark MAGA. See you in the White House. USA! USA!”
The episode was the first time this season that SNL did not begin with Maya Rudolph as Harris, who made a surprise cameo as herself in last week’s episode.
