It seems all but certain that Aaron Rodgers will soon no longer be part of the New York Jets organization, but it seems that the reasons behind his imminent departure are more complex than you’d expect.

According to FOX Sports reporter Jordan Schultz, “Sources: The #Jets moving on from Aaron Rodgers wasn’t necessarily about his play — it was more so about his contract and the significant dead money that would remain whenever they eventually parted ways. New GM Darren Mougey and HC Aaron Glenn want to take the hit now and start fresh.”

Earlier today, FOX Sports reporter Jay Glazer reported that the Jets have unofficially already moved on from Rodgers, posting to X “”Big scoopage: Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on March 12 if he decides to continue to play. Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play. It just won’t be for the Jets. @NFLonFOX”
