JD Vance depicts himself as “Trump’s wife” for Thanksgiving
Vice President-elect JD Vance shared a Thanksgiving meme in which he is apparently depicted as Donald Trump’s “wife.”
The image the Ohio senator posted on X, formerly Twitter, is a mock-up of Norman Rockwell’s famous 1940s Freedom From Want painting, featuring a large group sitting down at a table for the holiday meal with an elderly couple serving up a turkey. The painting is one of four known as the Four Freedoms series, inspired by President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 State of the Union address.
The image Vance shared on Thursday features his head superimposed over the matriarch figure, with Trump’s head replacing the patriarch at the head of the table.
Instead of a turkey, the Vance and Trump figures are holding a map of the U.S. showing large areas in red, indicating parts of the country that voted for the GOP ticket at the 2024 election.
Progressive journalist and former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan wrote while also sharing the image: “JD Vance posting an image of himself as Trump’s wife, and also with a map that doesn’t show people he and Trump won by one of the lowest margins in American history.”
Trump swept all seven crucial battleground states on his way to 312 Electoral College votes, winning the popular vote over Vice President Kamala Harris by more than 2 million ballots.
Trump also shared a Thanksgiving meme in a Thursday Truth Social post. The president-elect posted an edited video showing several leading Democratic figures, including President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff, about to eat a turkey on Thanksgiving. Trump then bursts out of the turkey, dancing to the Village People’s song “YMCA.”
Newsweek has contacted the Trump-Vance transition team for comment via email.
In an earlier post, Vance delivered a more traditional Thanksgiving message. “Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Despite our challenges, we remain the greatest nation in the world, and I’m very grateful for it—and for all of you,” Vance wrote.
Elon Musk, the tech billionaire who will be joining Trump’s next Cabinet in the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, enjoyed the meme shared by Vance, posting a cry-laughing emoji in response.
Trump’s 1.6-point margin of election victory—for votes counted through November 20—over Harris was the smallest since George W. Bush’s in 2000 and the fourth narrowest since 1960, according to analysis by PolitiFact.
Trump described his 2024 election win as a “landslide victory” in his own Thanksgiving message.
“Happy Thanksgiving to all, including to the Radical Left Lunatics who have worked so hard to destroy our country but who have miserably failed and will always fail, because their ideas and policies are so hopelessly bad that the great people of our nation just gave a landslide victory to those who want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“Don’t worry, our country will soon be respected, productive, fair, and strong, and you will be, more than ever before, proud to be an American.”
