Two top teams in the Western Conference square off as the Houston Rockets (37-23) travel North to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder (49-11) in what could be a Western Conference playoff preview.

The Thunder sit atop the Western Conference, 10.5 games clear of the second-place Los Angeles Lakers. Coach Mark Daigneault boasts the NBA’s No. 4 scoring offense (119.3 per game) and the NBA’s No. 2 scoring defense (106.6).
Led by the NBA’s scoring leader, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (32.3), the Thunder is a young team with a very bright future. Of their top eight players in terms of minutes per game, not a single player has had their 27th birthday. Add that to the cache of draft picks General Manager Sam Presti has put together (and the return of phenom Chet Holmgren), and it’s hard not to see an NBA Finals in their very near future.
For the Rockets, it’s been a surprising season that shows they also have a lot to look forward to. Coach Ime Udoka’s team plays stifling defense, No. 3 in the NBA in terms of defensive rating (109.8), and No. 5 in scoring defense (108.8).
Similar to the Thunder, the Rockets also have a very young core, with Jalen Green (22 years old), Amen Thompson (22), Alperen Segun (22), and Jabari Smith Jr (21) all playing more than 30 minutes per night. Green leads the team with 21.6 points per game, with Sengun adding 19.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.
This is the third of five meetings this season for the Rockets and Thunder, with the Thunder taking both of the previous matchups in Oklahoma City and the Rockets winning one in Houston.
