Amazon Prime Video has secured exclusive global rights to a documentary about Melania Trump, with filming underway since December 2024.

The untitled project, directed by Brett Ratner and executive produced by Mrs. Trump herself alongside Argentine documentary maker Fernando Sulichin, will release in theaters and streaming platforms according to a statement from the company.

Newsweek reached out to a contact for Mrs. Trump via email on Sunday for comment.

Why It Matters

The film promises “unprecedented behind-the-scenes” access to Mrs. Trump, who has traditionally maintained a private profile.

The documentary marks a significant expansion of Mrs. Trump’s public presence as she prepares to return as first lady, following her bestselling memoir “Melania” and recent digital photography series documenting the 2024 campaign trail.

As she prepares to balance her upcoming White House duties with supporting her son Barron’s transition to college at New York University, she has continued her philanthropic work, with NFT sales partially funding educational opportunities for foster care students studying technology and computer sciences across multiple universities.

The Context

The announcement reflects a notable shift in relations between Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and President-elect Donald Trump.

Amazon has increased alignment with the incoming administration, pledging $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund. Bezos, who previously faced criticism from Trump over Amazon and Washington Post coverage, has expressed optimism about potential regulatory changes in the second term.

His decision not to allow the Post to endorse a presidential candidate led to subscription cancellations and staff departures, including a cartoonist who quit after an editor rejected her sketch of media executives with the president-elect.

Director’s Comeback And Controversy

The project marks Brett Ratner’s return to directing since 2017, when multiple women, including actress Olivia Munn, accused him of sexual misconduct during the early days of the #MeToo movement.

Ratner, whose previous blockbuster works include the “Rush Hour” series, “Red Dragon” and “X-Men: The Last Stand,” has denied these allegations through his attorney.

When Will It Be Available?

The streaming service announced that filming began in December 2024 for theatrical and streaming releases in the second half of 2025.
