The Houston Astros are in aggressive pursuit of re-signing their franchise third baseman Alex Bregman this winter. It’s the top priority for Houston. Spotrac has projected him to sign a four-year, $119 million deal, but other sources are indicating he could land anywhere between $150 million and $200 million.
It’s no guarantee that Bregman returns to Houston, though.
Manny Randhawa of MLB.com recently made the Bregman connection that no Astros fans want to hear. He linked the star third baseman directly to the hated division rival Seattle Mariners.

“It’ll take some getting used to if Bregman is wearing any uniform other than the Astros’ next season, but there’s a good chance that will happen, even with Houston’s interest in bringing him back,” Randhawa wrote. “After being an integral member of the core that brought the Astros the first two World Series titles in franchise history in 2017 and ’22, the veteran third baseman is on the market for the first time. One of the clubs that could really use an upgrade at the hot corner (and some more pop in the lineup overall)? The Mariners.”
This idea comes down to one factor: money.
If the Mariners are willing to outbid the Astros, they could land him. Seattle has the need at third base and the team desperately wants to win, so the fit alone makes sense. If the money can match the need, Seattle could be stealing a division rival’s franchise legend halfway through his career.
That’s a nightmare scenario for the people of Houston.
