After months away from the ring, Adam Copeland, the former Edge, and two-time AEW TNT Championship, finally returned alongside FTR to face off against Jon Moxley and the Death Riders.

But it was at the post-event media scrum that Copeland actually laid out his goals, which are, in a nutshell, to revive a “kicka**, old, grinding, gritty NWA World Heavyweight Title matches type vibe.”

Seated alongside AEW founder Tony Khan, Cash Wheeler, and Dax Harwood, Copeland outlined his immediate goals, beginning with the FTR tag team.

“I mean, if you can think of a goal, that’s what we’re going after,” the former WWE Champion said. “I think [FTR] should be tag team champions, I think we should win the trios championships. I’m going after the world heavyweight championship.”

Copeland, retired from professional wrestling in 2011 after a devastating neck injury that doctors feared would end his career.

Despite this, he made sporadic appearances in WWE before making an unexpected return at the 2020 Royal Rumble, thrilling fans worldwide.

However, in a jaw-dropping move, Copeland shocked the wrestling world again when he debuted in AEW in 2023, following the WrestleDream pay-per-view.

Copeland’s last in-ring appearance came at AEW Double or Nothing 2024, where he defended the AEW TNT Championship in a vicious Barbed Wire Steel Cage match against Malakai Black.

Unfortunately, the match took a painful turn when Copeland broke his leg after a daring leap from the top of the cage.

In response, AEW Executive Vice Presidents Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, better known as The Young Bucks, stripped Copeland of his title during the May 29 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Now that Copeland is back, it sounds like his plans are pretty expansive.

“For a while, when I first got here, I was like, okay, I’m here. I’ve gotta get the lay of the land. I’ve gotta get everybody to know who I am,” Copeland continued. “But that’s gone. Now, it’s time to be here to make a difference. To show everybody exactly who I am, exactly who [FTR] are. There’s a reason that I’ve accomplished everything I’ve accomplished in this industry. There’s a reason that nobody can scratch what I’ve accomplished.”

Copeland concluded with a wild, “egotistical” plan to revive the spirit of NWA matches by battling Jon Moxley.

“Take a look, nobody can. It may sound egotistical, it may sound cocky, but when it’s true, it’s just confidence,” the WWE Hall of Famer concluded. “My plan is to go after Jon Moxley in a match that we’ve never seen before, between two guys who are at the top of their field, and go out there and go what we do, which is to have kickass, old, grinding, gritty NWA World Heavyweight Title matches type vibe. That’s what I want to get out of him. That’s what I’m looking forward to, and it’s gonna happen sooner than later.”
